Objectives of energy and environmental policy in the EU in terms of energy use in buildings very consistently summarizes the revised Directive on Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, which anticipates that all new and renovated buildings at the latest after 2020 should be nearly energy self-sufficient. This means that we will, instead of today modern passive buildings, build energy-active buildings. The basis of these buildings are energy efficient technologies, that significantly reduce the energy required for the operation of buildings, and systems for the heat and electricity supply which utilizes solar energy. Equally important is the management of water and waste. Technologies that we have built into the Cell, and are the product of many project partners, are presented in this chapter.
